We are living in an unprecedented health crisis. As everyone well knows by now, many communities and organizations are not fully prepared for navigating and accommodating the personal protective gear demands required of the recent COVID-19 epidemic.
One essential item that is in short supply and high demand is the face mask. In fact, according to a number of recent articles, including ones published this month in USA Today and Fortune magazine, the face mask shortage could get much worse as SARS-VoV-2 continues to spread far and wide.
To help out, I sewed masks. I made masks even though I had never sewed before, save but for mending a few buttons or velcro fasteners. I made masks even though I had literally no clue what I was doing.
I simply bought some material, and found guidance via YouTube videos which, combined with some trial and error, enabled me to make my first mask. This first one took almost 4 hours!
I continued to refine the process for producing masks at home with greater efficiency. I made more than a few mistakes and applied my learning into the next batch.
I was successfully able to streamline the process and made 100 masks in one weekend, complete with three late night sewing sessions (while watching Netflix of course!).
Upon completion of this milestone, the feeling of being able to do something to help out my community was refreshingly marvelous.
As I order more material and am getting ready for upcoming weekends during which I plan to continue my journey building masks and contributing to the COVID-19 fight, I truly believe that together we can ALL make a difference.
Please join me in my efforts. Contact me using the information below and I can assist with getting you started as well. Whether you can make 10, 100, or 1,000 masks, every little bit helps.
Remember, we are not only making masks...we are making a difference!
